I'm thinking of the classic two opposing bases in an outdoor area or separated by an outdoor area. Maps similar to Face, Lava Giant, Blood Gulch, 2Fort. What are your favorite custom maps in this style? Preferably maps that have a level of polish on par with the original UT maps.
I nominate Oblivion 12 by James "Chezdog" Mclean.
Nice CTF map with bases separated by a small valley. Kind gives a Team Fortress vibe.
