Trigger a monster

Post by Shoe Cleaner »

Hello,

I often see that a monster is triggered. It's just standing around waiting for the player. So what is the sense to trigger a monster, e.g. a Skaarj?

Usually, nothing... You need to bind them to an Ambushpoint/Alarmpoint and then they will run towards it when triggered. They however only do this if it's a PLAYER that triggers them, if a bot does it, it will ruin the trigger. A way around this could be using "TeamMonsters" from Teammonster.u and setting their team to 255 or 4.. not sure which of those it were.

I better explain what I do mean.
In some maps (e.g. MH-TheOutpost, which is not a MH map from scratch, I know, but that is ot the point) the monsters are triggered by a Trigger actor or Dispatcher actor. So the player activates any Trigger actor by running into their collision radius, and the Trigger actors triggers movers or monsters.

When a monster is just standing around and waiting for the player to attack (by seeing him or hearing him) what is the sense to trigger that monster, of he does not see and hear the player? Trigger actors do trigger monsters even if the monsters cannot see any player around. Why do mappers trigger monsters by a Trigger actor?

TIA :)

Like I said before, Triggering a monster has the same effect as the monster "Seeing" or "Hearing" you. If it is setup correctly it can be used to make monsters ambush players out of seemingly nowhere. Sadly it is hardly ever set up correctly.
