Everything ut-files.com hosts goes with the sale.

Work has picked back up, ten-fold, so I'm not too concerned about selling it off.

Main reason for "selling" the site is because anyone serious about actually doing the site right will have no problem paying money for it. Weeds out all the "I just want the files" people.

Well, I had the #1 ranked ut99 downloads site back in the day for "unreal tournament downloads" and similar terms after doing a bit of SEO on my site. It's what I did for work at the time, so I used some tricks and bam I was #1. Well that was in US I was ranked. I was also at one point getting like 300 visits a day but not making any money and losing interest anyway. Then you came along and picked "UT-Files.com", lol a cheap SEO trick (one that I would have done myself had I had ranking in mind when I picked my domain), so good game on that plus you made your site way more robust than mine so as google was getting smarter and you had way better content and more organized files my site dropped. ...but alas, I am OLD and fat and have given up on the ladies for now (going to take years to get over my crazy ex lol) so I got back into UT about 2 years ago and started my site back up www.xantaz.net this time mainly just to promote the servers I play on that are still active. So as the saying goes here in the US, if you can't beat them...join them?

As this really isn't a profitable niche I'm not in it for the money, just the sake of keeping UT alive as long as possible so I have fresh noobs to frag. =P I am interested in the community and the domain.

Question is, How much?

I don't know how much I'd let it go for now that I am not worried about losing it due to COVID19. I survived it.

With that being said, I started my UT hosting with sportclan.com where I hosted our custom skins, custom maps and some other server specific custom files for joining our gaming servers. Then I created UTMH.com due to my interest in MH and it being extremely hard to find files/maps for it which lasted about a year before I changed it to PlanetMonsterHunt.com of which I kept hosting up until about 5 or so years ago. Then in late 2005, Baiter didn't want to host ut-files.com anymore, so I obtained it from him and created the site you see now. His version was just an index page with about 200MB worth of files. I built an actual site complete with free redirects, resources, iptocountry host, and covered all the UT versions up to UT3.

Okay then, you are the one that owned me at hosting UT files lol. I was "Dominating" when Baiter was hosting lol at least from ranking perspective, then you came along and Godliked me  . You did what I had always wanted to do, but never got around to. Great job. No worries if you don't want to sell, but the site is down currently?

http://ut-files.com/

Update, just saw your other post about the site being down. I'm not great with PHP, but I can get around. I'd take a look if you needed some fresh eyes.

Can't believe that was 15 years ago....where did the time go! That script he was using is the same one I was using. I had instilled it first, then he used the same one, which was kinda annoying...

Anyway, I know it well cause I used it or similar versions for years as well on my site. https://sourceforge.net/projects/autoindex/ If I recall, I upgraded mine when I started having security concerns, then replaced it eventually with another after security issues. Actually, I'm still looking for a replacement as I have time and think about it, even considered making a WordPress plugin that would integrate a newer version of that mod but saw no need as long as your site and others had the files online to easily find.

In other words, I think if you are having PHP issues, it could be the directory listing script?

Well for one, Baiter didn't have anything "installed" to host the files he had. He just used the Apache default index page to serve the files.

Secondly, I've never even heard of your site and as soon as I got the site from him I started looking into advanced options for the apache index page when I discovered the AutoIndex script which I have been using ever since.

Additionally, it is the php script that isn't compatible with the latest version of Php that I have installed.

Hey Skillz. I'd PM you, but since I just registered, your forum isn't gonna allow me to do so until I make some posts here apparently.

While I'm waiting though, I'll give some quick details about myself. First of all, I'm willing to make a cash offer. I will PM you the amount I had in mind as soon as I get PMing privileges, but I'm just gonna warn you beforehand. The offer isn't going to be much. If you need more, I will have to talk to my community and see what we want to do.

I own my own site hosted on a VPS and maintain a XenForo license. I've hosted a few files in the past, but nothing major. The most notable we had was definitely the MS23 build of Halo Online back when Microsoft was going on a rampage on any US-based site that had the build. You can check out my site here.

I do need to know a fair few things about your current hosting situation, but those questions can wait for later. I do have one though that can be answered here. You say the troubles regarding UT-Files was due to a PHP upgrade that caused major compatibility issues with a script on your site. If that was the case, why didn't you just revert back to the old version?

Manually override your limitations since you're clearly not a bot.

The chances of me selling are much, much slimmer now. Work has picked back up and I'm no longer in the "red" of losing everything.

I love XenForo. I actually have a license for another forum I host else where.

I imagine you're gonna want to know the data footprint as well as the monthly bandwidth. Both of which I'm not sure off the top of my head. I know the archives themselves take around 1TB of space total with UT99 taking up around 200GB of that. The monthly bandwidth is vastly different month to month. Some months I could see 1 - 2TB of bandwith while other months I could see upwards of 9TB. Then some months I'll see less than 100GB. (These figures are based on all the ut-files.com sub domains, as well as redirects)

I host other sites on the server that require the latest version of PHP. I am sure I could put ut-files.com in some sort of container and let it run the older version, but it's a very, very old version that's long past it's life support. Keeping it running on the site would be a huge security risk.

One day I will have the time to just delete the old site backend and find a newer, more suitable backend that I can customize and use.

Alright. So you do plan to bring UT-Files back up again sometime soon?
