(I hope this is in the right section of the forum, if not, please move this Thread)

I just a few days ago re-installed Unreal Tournament 99 on my 4-core Windows 7 64 bit pc.
then today set the graphics driver to Open GL and now the game is much too fast.
To be sure, i set gamespeed in the Settings section to 50% but still it feels too fast.

It is a bit difficult to explain; as an example in the standard Deck 16 map,
the acidwater-texture animation is very much faster than in D3D mode and the same
goes for the flickering upstairs where the second flak-cannon is.

Maybe someone can help me fix that?

I tried to install UT v3 and ran into some issues.
The first one, although not preventing the installation, is that it seems to be a demo.
"A modified Demo UnrealTournament 436 08/15/16 with:"
That does not look like the full version or GOTY.
Which is kinda obvious since you cannot distribute a full game.
It should be mentioned though before downloading it.
(Admittedly, i did not read your whole website, Medor)

I installed to C:\utdemo, to make sure it is not installed in proram files and so it has a proper DOS name.
The first real problem occurs at the end of the installation, where i get
"Windows cannot find 'C:\UnrealTournament\ShortcutMaker.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again."
This can be fixed by installing to C:\

In the end, after changing a few things that seem to be pre-configured for you personally, it worked.
But it does not fix the texture animation problem with water and light flickering and
the whole game still feels too fast at 50% Gamespeed and normal difficulty.
(i now realize, i failed to mention that last bit in my first post)

As using windows 8 or above is completely out of the question and the utv3 demo does not fix that either,
can it be that there IS really no fix for that problem other than switching back to D3D?
(S3TC is not an option for me)

P.S.: I am fully aware that the game is 20 years old and would not expect it to work as it did in 1999

You can read there is two possibility for install.
1/ with the exe but here you can't change the location.
2/ open the exe with winrar or other decompressor and put the folder where you want.

For the speed it have special launcher working with all multiprocessor.

You speak about D3D
It start directly under D3D9 but you can change for opengl include in.

There is an other solution for force the speed processor launching UT http://unrealtournament.99.free.fr/foru ... &view=next

Quote:

C:\UnrealTournament\System\UnrealTournament.exe -cpuspeed=2490

you can also trying adding your cpu speed into your ut shortcut(right click it and click properties), so it would look something like this
C:\UnrealTournament\System\UnrealTournament.exe -cpuspeed=NUMBER

to find the exact number you can download a program called cpu-z or core temp and it will tell you.
so for example under control panel mine is set to 3.2ghz, but with the programs mentioned the exact number is 3231
-cpuspeed=3231

Have you tried just setting the framerate cap in the opengl.ini?

A newer pc will run the game at very high fps and will feel superfast,
I cap mine at 60 fps and it seems fine but I am not running Win 7

Just thought I'd mention it, might not be your problem though.

Well, this has been a fun voyage...
I tired pretty much everything you all wrote about
(apart from some scaryfreaky stuff).

I added a new open gl driver, installed the second tickfix by Anthrax,
installed every version from "ut-files.com/entire server download",
added my cpuspeed to the starting shortcut, updated UT99 to v4.51b
+ bonuspack 4

But, nothing works, the water texture animation is still much too fast,
the footstepsound also seems to be too fast and it "feels" too fast in general,
even though gamespeed is at 50% and difficulty at classic
(as always throughout this testing).

Now i am all testburned out and just play in D3D, at least i found a
somewhat newer D3D10 driver and a newer version of the X-Maps mutator, YAY!

A few Remarks:
Mr. Real
I only have a "opengldrv.ini" and i cannot find anything regarding a framerate cap.
Thanks for your (still valid) hint though

Medor
I say this with all the love in my heart; Your English is horrible! ;-)
But then again, so is my French :-)

Sorry to hear all the troubles you have had.

When I got the newer opengl for my game it came with a new ini file
with a lot more options than the stock opengl.ini, in those new options
framerate cap was one, I was getting 200-300 fps and the game was
crazy fast but when I capped it to 60 it runs just like it did on Win XP.

If you ever want to try opengl again look for the new opengl.ini to go with it.

What what you install a server or a UTplayer ?
What do you want a server or UT player or the two?

To know
v4.51b is only for server not player.
not need opengl for servers.

You want UTplayer use UTv3 d3d9 fixed and opengl fixed on it not need any BP there is all inside.
You want a UTserver take this one http://unrealtournament.99.free.fr/foru ... f=9&t=2305
or this one http://unrealtournament.99.free.fr/foru ... f=9&t=3484

just on click for start the server and you joint it with the UT player

This is not the build (d3d opengl) you have but how you set it the important.
Be carefully for use recent d3d you must have directx coming with in to your windows build.

This is in the UnrealTournament.ini
