While it's great that so many people are helping to add files back to the redirect, it's worth mentioning that certain types of files cannot be 'pushed' to clients, so they do not get redirected, and therefore should not be on the redirect. I've noticed a bunch of OGG files added to the redirect in the past few days, just so you know, clients WILL NOT get these files. UPL and KA files also don't get redirected.

What you should do if you want players to have ogg music files is set up a download like I did here.

Although those files are being uploaded to the FTP site, they don't get transferred over. Only file extension .uz, .uz2 and .uz3 are being moved the rest are deleted. So all it's doing it wasting bandwidth.

They're compressing the oggs to uz2 before uploading, so they are making it to the redirect.

That's not what I meant at all. I mean to say they're going onto the redirect server because they are being converted to the uz2 format... however, you'll notice that the file size difference is negligible between a normal ogg and a uz2 compressed OGG. That's because OGG is already a compressed format. You'll notice the same thing if you compress it to zip, rar, 7z or any other format.

No, the mistake you're making is assuming that OGG files are handled like other essential UT2004 files, such as maps and static meshes, where the exact same file is needed on the client and the server. That is not the case at all. You can have an empty music directory or a folder full of replacment music files (in fact, I've replaced all the default music with longer tracks on my system) - it makes no difference. OGG aren't essential files, aren't checked by UT2004 for consistency between client and server, and most importantly ARE NOT REDIRECTED TO CLIENTS.

That's why you shouldn't upload them. Here is a good post from Wormbo listing other files that are not downloaded from the redirect either: lots-of-pointless-files-t46.html

I was just looking at the redirect's files, and there are tons of ogg files currently hosted, including ALL of the default music for UT2004.

When I get around to it, im going to modify the script that moves the files, to delete unnecessary files.

Ya getting those ogg files to work on a server is a problem i still havent resolved. The only way they work is if people manually put it into their ut music files.
