 Connection problems, feedback please!!
It seems skillz that ever since you installed Nexgen, I've had many connection problems, including right now which warranted me making this thread. On a map simple as Indiana Jones that everyones played many times. I can even run around a bit, then lose connection. I tried joining other servers, and had no problems. So maybe some feedback would help me, or if anyone else has had problems since using Nexgen.
Notes: When I get kicked, I bring up the chat box and this is what it tells me.
[ASC] Kick Notification
[ASC] www.planetmonsterhunt.com
[ASC] Kick Type: Timeout
Before Nexgen, I never had any problems connected unless my own isp went down for some reason. I'm not having any problems connecting to the internet, hence I was able to join other servers just to see if I was having major problems. Plus the fact I'm writing this. Any feedback on maybe what I could possibly do, or if others are having problems like it, that they could please post in this thread. Because this is happening all too often, a problem I never had before. Please let me know, skillz, postal, anyone! Thanks!

First off let me say Skillz totally runs the servers. I do mostly webwork for him and help around the forums, but I'd like to step in and help out with the servers too if Skillz is OK with it. I'll be playing more often now and take a more active role there. I've missed playing and I have shuttled my 2K4 projects to the backburner for a while so I have time to enjoy MH, something I've surely missed.
Now could you briefly explain to me why a mod like nexgen is really needed anyway? I get the whole tiered priveledges thing, but what else is it doing? If it's lagging you then that needs to be addressed.
Update...OK went to the Nexgen thread at UA and downloaded it. I got a three page readme about how "great" it is and how much it does, but no breakdown of what all this great stuff is.
MH is not like other gametypes. A full service controller with anticheat and bells and whistles just doesn't make sense to me. A simpler admin mod with kick/ban and some admin called controls would seem to suffice, wouldn't it?

I'd really like to know whats going on?!? Most the day I haven't been able to play. Including right now, current map was Andromeda. I was able to play the UTJ MH server earlier today. But if people who've read this thread, and have had the same problems please post. I'd like to know if it's me or not so I could fix it, but I have the feeling it's not me. Thanks!

I dont know what to say except that I have noticed the server lagging more ever since that nexgen when the server has a lot of players on it... maybe when Skillz gets back he can look into it.

Look, if your number one player on your server is saying "There's a problem" then let's address it. Personally I am for simplicity, especially when it comes to server management.
If it is indeed the nexgen causing the issues (and I wouldn't be surprised, this thing has a lot of stuff in it-wow) what are acceptable alternatives? Does normal admin rights cover what you need to police the server or are there functions in the nexgen that you use often?
When Skillz gets back, I need to be able to present him solutions and not necessarily problems. You tell me what you need and I'll do the legwork to get the info and mods to discuss with Skillz. The servers are very important to him and I'm sure he will do what it takes to make you happy.

The servers have been going through some log processing problems lately (with the web site) causing them to get hung up, racking up 80+% on the CPU usage, this is what's been causing the lag lately.
Nexgen and the other "server controllers" all you to admin all aspects of the server from within' the game, using a GUI interface with tiered permissions, so you can give members access to change what you want them to be able to change.
This includes, but it not limited to kicking and banning players, setting time limits on the bans/kicks, setting up multiple player limits (limits on regular players and limits on VIP/MODS members [basically you can have a 12 player server where the last two slots are open for privileged players only]), changing server settings (time limit, frag limit, game speed), adding and removing mutators, moving players to spectator slots, different teams or even a different server, and a ton more other useful features.
Seems ASC might still be partially installed on the server, since that log is an "ASC" log and not a Nexgen log. Can't really do anything about it until I get my laptop. Hopefully I get it before Monday/Tuesday of next week, as the guy still hasn't shipped it.

When you get back in the saddle, lets take a look at the server logs when nexgen is running. If there is an offending class, perhaps I can disable it to stop the lag? It's open source and I'm betting the guys from the nexgen thread would love to nail down any troubles it might have.

I don't think the problem is with nexgen or the unreal tournament server(S), as I mentioned in the first paragraph. Its a problem with the server processing the logs/stats for the web sites hosted on the server. Past few days I've been getting text messages saying the server's load/CPU has been maxed out for more than a 6 hour period while processing stats for a certain web site user. Not PMH, but one of the sites hosted on the server none-the-less; not sure what the culprit is, but I *think* I may have solved it, but I need to get a PC so I can further investigate the issue.
Basically, the web server is causing excessive load on the server.
From a coding standpoint, Nexgen is coded 10x better than ASC and that's coming from the person who coded ASC. So I highly doubt Nexgen is the problem.

I see now. I didn't know you were racked with others. I had wondered why it just popped up like this when so many on the nexgen thread were happy with the performance.
Would you *PLEASE* make that dude hurry up and send your comp? What's his email, I want to talk to him....

If I had it my way, I'd drive to his house and pick it up myself. 21.6 hour round trip.
Seems the post man delivered the $850 money order to the wrong person, luckily the person wasn't a thief and called the post office to find out what was going on, at the same time the post man wrote down the correct address, to the wrong address he delivered it to. So he was able to track it down, then I forgot to give him my address to ship it to, which I did that today, so hopefully he gets it today and ships it today, I also gave him my phone number so he can just call if anything else comes up.
